Computer keeps starting up at 60hz refresh rate

I have a Dimension 5000 with a 19" CRT monitor, I keep setting the refresh rate on the graphics properties to 100hz. It works fine for a while, then after several restarts the refreh rate goes back to 60hz, which is horrible on the eyes! I have tried setting to 75hz & 85hz but after a while always reverts back to 60hz. Does anybody know how to set the computer to 100hz?

thanks

What's happened is that Windows is loosing track of the monitor's Plug and Play configuration, and is using the 60 Hz default as a safety measure (since a too-high refresh rate can damage the monitor). Fortunately, this is an easy fix: right-click the desktop, choose Properties, Settings, and click on the Advanced button, and choose the Monitor tab. Check the "Automatically detect Plug & Play monitors" box, and reboot. If this doesn't work, you'll need to click the Change or Properties button and reinstall the monitor. If this doesn't work, your monitor may not be set to support anything higher than 60 Hz under the current resolution rate; lower the screen resolution and recheck the refresh rates to see if you're offered anything better. You can also try updating the video card driver or using "RefreshForce" from Major Geeks:

Hi there

Been going through your instructions and I don't have a "Automatically detect Plug & Play monitors" box in the monitor tab.

All I have is Monitor Type (dell m991) & properties button next to that opens up a new window with 2 tabs General (with a troubleshoot button) & driver ( with driver details, update driver, roll back driver & uninstall buttons).

Any ideas?

Thanks
