Computer seems to shut itself off

My Dimension XPS M200s likes to shut down while the CD-ROM is in use. I have installed a new CD-ROM and the problem still occurs. When this happens the num lock,cap lock, and scroll lock lights on the keyboard flash, the cd clicks like crazy and the power light and the Hard Disk light flash. What could be cauding this to happen?
