Concerning the Vista 64bit operating system

Even though we are making the Vista 64bit DVD available to you, there are some points we need to make:
* Dell does not guarantee that we will have Vista 64bit drivers for your PC model
* Dell does not guarantee that your peripherals will function nor will we be making drivers for these peripherals. You will have to obtain them from the manufacturer
* Dell will not troubleshoot software issues that arise after you remove our Vista 32bit operating system and load the Vista 64bit operating system
* Dell will assist in troubleshooting hardware issues by using our Dell Diagnostic tools

We have Vista 64bit drivers for the following PCs -
XPS 730, 720H2C, 720, 710H2C, 710, 700, 600, 420, 410, 210

We do not have Vista 64bit drivers for the following PCs -
XPS 630i, One, 400, 200

Inspiron Desktops

Studio Hybrid Desktop 140G

Vostro Desktops

yes i got 3 years of warrenty left, i just checked my processor and it is 64bit compatible but Tech Support are saying no and they kepping on that we cannot send for the above and they wont support me ,really such a large company like Dell and they cant hand over one disc, what is furthur shocking is that all the oher major companies support 64bit and Dell dosent want anything to do with it.

Am i just one really unlucky customer? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thx

This is reminding me of the mess with trying to get the second drive install kit for the 1720 earlier this year. It was hit and miss and the kit was not offered as free but instead it was people trying to buy them from Dell. Dell does have major problems with internal communications. I am going to go out on a limb and say it is because of all of the outsourcing.

Just an update of Vista 64bit on XPS gen 3.  Although i have 4g ram, The os still uses 3+ G memory, this is due to limiation of XPS gen 3 motherboard which uses Intel® 925X Express Chipset.  Please read the article from microsoft which may be helpful for xps gen 3 people.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605/en-us

Although Bios and my computer properties (sp1) list 4Gig memory, task manager still shows my  memory as 3+ G only due memory remapping issues.  May be this is how my 64bit installation went fine with 4g on the slot!!!

I'm  bit disappointed as my upgrade from 32->64bit is not worth except i have learned few things!!

Anybody having work around please let me know.

Yep I am in the UK and tried to request this yesterday. XPS tech support said the policy applies in US only. But from what I have read here its worldwide.

So I'll be raising this again with them today.

Wish me luck,

BTW I have 720 xps air cooled machine purchased in March this year with 32 bit vista.
