Contemplating Optiplex over Dimension

I’m about to purchase my second pc ever, my faithful five year old Dimension is getting quite long-in-the-tooth. Instead of purchasing another Dimension I am thinking about a Optiplex based upon comments in this group and elsewhere stating that they are, if anything, perhaps even more solid and quiet than the Dimensions, and possibly better tech support.

I will NOT be using my new pc for gaming, music or video. It will primarily be used for the MS Office Suite applications, surfing the net, and photo editing. Can anyone offer and comments positive or negative? I simply want another system that will last another five years without getting outdated. Would a Optiplex make a good replacement for my old Dimension; this would NOT be for office or business. Thanks for all comments.

Acadia,

All in all the optiplex systems are better than the dimension's in almost every aspect. They have more things integrated into the motherboard which allows for more expandability. They run quieter

I have one Optiplex for personal use at home. I have been very happy with Dell's Tech Support--I had a motherboard and a hard drive replaced by Dell on two separate instances, all without much trouble. The technician who came to my home to replace the motherboard is a local sub-contractor for Dell. He said that Dell support for Optiplex is much better than Dimension. [I also have a few Optiplexes at work, but they are serviced by our technical support staff.]

Acadia,

They run quieter than the dimension's as they are designed for buisiness use so need to be very quiet. If you do get a optiplex get the tower chassis which allows for far more upgrades than the other two lines.
