I don't own a 630, I own two 420's.  My coretemp readings are usually

Core #1  24C

Core #2  23C

Core #3  21C

Core #4  21C

That's at idle.  While using it a lot it's usually

#1 37C

#2 35C

#3 26C

#4 24C or so.

Notice the fourth core is a lot cooler during usuage.  Probably because it ain't being used as much.

My core temps are right about where yours are at, so I believe you're good there.

Looking at Nvidia's System Monitor under the motherboard, my system temp reads 178c - I've heard this is normal, but can anyone confirm?

Hes right the 178C reading for the chipset has been known by Nvidia for about 2 months now, and they have promised a fix but have yet to deliver.

My 630 temps on idle are:

50

53

52

54

Seems kinda high compared to the op. Just using the standard cooling - twin fans at the front, heatsink on cpu facing the right way, no adjustment to fan speeds. Does this a bit hot or nothing to be worried about?

Thanks

Cadmetz,

I guess I was wrong on my figuring.  I read your post and decided to check my temp logs that I kept early on when I first downloaded Coretemp.  During usage my core temps were 33, 33, 31, 31....and when it was under heavy usage, they were 37, 37, 36, 35...so they were not as I figured in my first post.

I must have been mixing my idle temps with usage temps, thus the 37 and 24.....oh well.  Everythings normal so I don't mind.  But thanks for pointing it out.  Now if I do see a fluctuation like I posted above, at least I'll know that it's wrong.

at stock and idle those are a bit high..about 20degs more than average..not enough to worry about at the moment...

Have you monitored them at load?

you may need to reseat the heat sink..but don;t do it unless you get some good thermal paste to apply...

True. But, I suppose it is possible that the arrow sticker could be put on incorrectly.  Should you feel air blowing out of the heatsink going toward the back of the case?

Just been playing Crysis for about an hour, last level on the deck, with lots of intense action and therefore you would expect putting my system under a lot of stress.

According to nvidia system monitor my temps are now: 44/49/46/49 Go figure?!

How do you work that one out? Earlier I was just doing some WP and left the system idle with screensaver kicking in after 10 minutes (is Vista that much of a hog!) and got the higher temps

Just checked again - back up to 49/52/51/53 - crazy

Does anyone know if the heatsink fan is suppose to blow air out of the heatsink (fan is inside heatsink)?  If so, my heatsink may be mounted in the wrong direction.

I have those same core temps at idle.  I am having the heat sink replaced.  With mine, if I increase fan speed, the core temp even goes higher.

I really do not know what the problem is though.

The air flow arrow should be pointing towards the back.
