A .dat file is a
Data file. Index.dat in your cookies folder is the data file that 'indexes' the cookies you have in there, i.e., keeps track of them. As far as I know the file can only be deleted from True DOS and you'd only want to do that if you also deleted ALL your cookies first.

You can, however, instal CleanSweap (Symantec) and safely edit your cookies and other .dat files. Cookies can also be edited by other methods. Before removing any .dat files,
copy them to a floppy! Many Dell users have asked what to do after removing important .dat files because programs quit running.

Does improperly deleting cookies affect the synchronization between these two files?
Is there a right way or a wrong way to delete cookies, i.e., TIF folder first, then the Cookies folder? Or the opposite?
Thanks,
Eleanor :-)
