Dell 4300
This is my old dell (2001). However, it want to rest but no way I am not going to put it on rest. I am having a current problem with it. It is about CPU fan/case fan (the one with a cover of green colour. It is not working. The other fan (power supply) in steel cabinet is working. I want to try to replace the CPU fan which is having the data info: JMC/DATECH 9232-12HBTL-2 (DC 12V 0.85A) P/N 9M060. It is listed for 92mm or 9.2 cm ( as I was told by a tech who run a diagnostic and told me that I need to replace the CPU fan. Before I put this Dell 4300 on REST I want to do (learn) some thing like replacing the CPU fan if I can. If I messed up with it then it go on REST forever. The old one has cables connected are of red, white and black. On Dell support I was suggested to buy ZALMAN CNP S7000B-AIc Heatsink Assembly ($29.99 + shipping). Is this is the right one? Can I install CPU fan on myh own? What are the problems if any. Is there any other brand name I should buy which my easy and bit cheap in price? Please some who have knowledge and experience on replacing the CPU fan can help me please. I do I know that I am getting the right type? I have already open the CPU. Please help me.
Thank You
Kanti

Actually in this case a standard fan will not likely work. This fan has a sensor and other non standard connection.
You can limp these along by removing the sticker and oiling the fan bearings.

Hi Kanti,
My sister has a Dimension 4300 but it's been collecting dust in a closet for years. So I applaud you for keeping yours running.
Your 4300 requires a Dell fan. The Zalman fan is not going to work since it does not have the same connections as the Dell fan. The Dell part is very easy to find. Simply use your preferred search engine and search for "Dimension 4300 fan". I found this one on Ebay for $11. The replacement procedure is very simple. Slide the old assembly out and slide the new one in.

A standard 92mm X 92mm X 25mm three-wire case fan will also work if you swap connectors. Use a pin to gently pry up the plastic holding tabs and you can slide the leads out.
The 4300 and the 4550 share fans, and I used that trick with a 4550. The 4550 has a proprietary passive heatsink; I tried to add a Zalman heatsink, but it wouldn't fit due to a row of capacitors immediately adjacent to the heatsink bracket.

The fan has two power leads and an RPM sensor, just like standard case fans. What's different is the connector, but the female pins on the leads will work in a standard fan plug. Been there, done that, when I rescued a 4550 chassus from a PC recycle heap. (Getting it to boot with my "famous" Syba 150R card was why I registered here.)
