Dell BIOS boot sequence for XPS 8300
Dear All, I had problems withy my external hard drives - I had to unplug them ever time I restarted the my Dell. I decided to change my BIOS (big mistake) and now I cannot start my PC. Could someone please tell me what the Boot Priority is (I got standard RAID and Bitlocker on a USB stick) so that I can set my system the way it was. Thank you very much

Hi W.naef,
The boot sequence is normally as follows:
1. USB or DVD drive
2. Internal HDD
If you made other changes in the BIOS that are preventing your system from booting, you can reset BIOS defaults, which usually are good enough to boot the system.

Just a follow I had a look in BIOS - Advanced - System Configuration - SATA Mode - it is currently set to AHCi is that correct Or should it be set to RAID as the xps has RAID 0?
thx

Hi Osprey,
Thank you for the advice, unfortunately it does not work. I did the F9 but I am still getting no where....
i have standard Dell Raid 0 and Windows 7 Bitlocker enabled (the key is stored on my USB device). I assume the bit locker set up makes the boot up a bit more difficult as first the HD with the boot path needs to be accessed and then the key.
Do you have any more advice how I can fix my boot up sequence?
thank you very much.

It looks like it was a RAID issue. I reloaded the old BIOS config, but I also had to set the 'Sata Mode' to RAID. Now the machine boots up ok, but it feels a bit slower. Is it just me thinking that or do I need to fine tune something.
Thx

What you seem to have done is set the controller mode to ATA. AHCI is going to be faster, so search for instructions on how to change ATA mode to AHCI. It's not hard, and it does not require reinstalling the operating system.

I think you should keep it at AHCI. RAID is for multiple disks combined into a single storage unit.

I'm not sure what the controller mode is from the description, but it should be AHCI.
