Dell Dimension 3000 Rebuild?

I was Just wondering if the Dell Dimension 3000 could be transformed from it's current state, and be reborn into an entry level Gaming PC. for Pentium 4 games.... If not was just wanting to see if it could be done?

In theory, yes. But in my opinion, the work + money investment is not worth the results. I would simply clean it up and give it to someone to use for email, Facebook, etc. Any money I would spend would go towards a new entry to mid level 2016 model.

It appears that the Optiplex 780 used the i7 2600 even though I do not see it on the parts list. But you would also need to upgrade the power supply to see if the GTX 10x0 video cards would work.

No.

The Pentium D945 is the maximum processor that can be used in these models, providing you have a 0HJ054 motherboard.

Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors are not supported.

The Dimension E520 supports both Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors and could be adapted for light gaming.

I have a Dell Optiplex Gx620 that l'm repairing one works but the other has issues like a dead floppy drive and a possibly dead CMOS battery that keeps reverting back to the following date: Fri Mar 16 2006 Time: 12:00:16 AM. is there a way to fix that i heard you could diasble some setting in bios but i do not know what tab it's under.....

You can disable the floppy drive in system setup, but not the realtime clock battery -- that needs to be replaced.  It's a CR-2032 button cell, available for $1.00 or less on amazon.com.

Also could the Dell Optiplex 990 SFF be used as a gaming computer? To run today's hottest titles like GTA, COD, BF1, Minecraft at medium resolution? also which graphics card would i need that could fit inside of a case that size?

Absolutely — I have done it. The main issue is that the front audio connector, which is SoundBlaster-type, needs to be rewired with standard Molex connectors. Also, the front panel connector might not fit all third-party mainboard headers and the cable is short, but you can change the sockets or even the power switch and LEDs. (Parts can be bought from Chinese eBay sellers.)

Any mATX board should fit.

There were a few Socket 478 PCI Express boards made, but it is more effective in both cost and performance to use a later socket.
