Dell Inspiron 620 MT PSU Upgrade or Compatible GPU

Intel Core i5-2310 2.9GHz Quad-Core Processor
6MB Cache
8GB DDR3 1600MHz Memory
1TB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Intel HD Graphics 2000
DVD±R/RW Optical Drive
Integrated 5.1 High Definition Audio
Dell 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN
10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
8-in-1 Media Card Reader
Ports: 8 x USB 2.0 (2 front, 6 back), Headphone, Microphone, RJ-45 (Gigabit Ethernet), VGA, HDMI
Expansion slots: 1 PCI Express x16, 3 PCI Express x1
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I have these things hooked up to my computer at all times:
22' samsung LED widescreens x2 (dual monitor set up)
Wacom Intuos 4 Medium
Logitech m505 universal wireless mouse and keyboard
Wifi Kodak esp office 2170

In spite of all of this I was wondering if my computer could handle the HD 6670 Gddr5 card. Thanks. I'm not much of a heavy gamer but I would like to play games like Batman Arkam City or Lego Batman. I design a lot if it matters. Just worried if my system could take the HD 6700 without causing damage in the long run or short run.

According to this:
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspiron-620?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=corp&~lt=popup
^It can take it, but I just want to make sure.

Is there any other lower recommendation cards that would be on the safer side? Or is the HD 6670 safe?

The INSPIRON 620 MINI Tower uses standard size power supply.  Its a tight fit.

Yes, after moving the SATA data cable to a different connector, enter the system setup and disable the SATA connnector the cable was removed from and check that the connector the cable was transfer to, is enabled [on].

The only SATA data cable that cannot be moved is the data cable from the primary hard drive, this must always be connected to the motherboard SATA 0 connector.

Details of the 620 system setup, are HERE

Quote:-

Scroll up and down the list with the up- and down-arrow keys. As an option is
highlighted, the Help Screen displays more information about that option
and available settings.

To effect the changes, first scroll down to 'Device information'.

Leave the SATA 0 setting 'as is'.

The SATA connectors designation, should be shown on the motherboard, also can be found in the 'Technical Overview' section of the Service Manual.

Also maybe I should just upgrade my PSU? Can anyone suggest some compatible PSU's something around the 450-500 mark. Suggestions for both PSU's and 300 watt PSU compatible cards would be great thanks!

The Dell Inspiron 620 Mini Tower can use most generic standard ATX power supply units, with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with or without the on/off switch.

You should be able to buy a compatible power supply from either a local or online computer store.

Note: You require a power supply with four SATA power connectors.

Check out the Corsair/Antec brands of power supplies.

Regards to the video cards, your choices are limited by the low end 300w PSU.

Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) 512MB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

GeForce 210 512MB 64-bit DDR3 PCI

I'd suggest the 6570 and 6670 as well.

Would this one be compatible with my desktop? Once I replace my PSU, would it be possible then for me to move up to gpu's such as the Radeon HD 6870?

The Corsair 600w power supply shown in your link should work fine and yes, to the Radeon HD 6870, providing there is space inside the case for the card.

Both the above Antc EarthWatts 500w power supply and the XFX HD-667X-ZAF3 Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 card should work fine in the Inspiron 620MT.
