Dell Inspiron 620 - graphics card options for upgrade in late 2016
There are some old posts out there that consider the options for GPU upgrades on a Dell Inspiron 620 (Tower not slimline) given it's minimally spec'd PSU.
There seems to be a number of relatively recent NVidia cards marketed as low power, that rely solely on the PCI slot and do not have the extra 6 pin power source. Subject to size/space in the PC, and dual slow (one for venting) and the layout of the Inspiron internally, has anyone any experience successfully working with more recent cards, such as the low power GTX 750, 950 and even 1050.
My instinct says that there must be a problem, but if there is I'd like to understand exactly what. If it is worth a shot, I'd take a gamble as I've other machines that I know could handle one. Finally, if anyone is aware of more recent lower power Radeon graphic cards, I'd be happy to take advice on those.
For completeness, the current spec of the Inspiron is i5-2400, with 8GB memory, standard disk HD and that's about all.

The 950 is a higher power version of the 750 which uses PCI-E 6 pin connector. Same thing with 1050TI
The GIGABYTE Windforce RX460 that DOES NOT use aux power is fine. GV-RX460WF2OC-2GD 7.52" x 4.37"

Fits and works in smaller dells.
620S cant use any of these cards. Only the Tower with 305W power supply.

If you want to upgrade, get a Radeon 7750 Video card.
Any higher cards cannot be more than 8 inches Long or they will not physically fit.

What about "Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 OC 2GB" - it's says 191mm which is under 8", PCIe power only and I believe 75w - it quotes PSU 300W? Seems to be too good to be true hence I expecting to be told it's not possible!

Rumor on the street is that this isn't working with older Dell's FYI (i.e. Inspiron 620) and it's a BIOS issue of something

Nvidia based cards work fine. Many Radeon cards require UEFI bios to work. Short cards aka GTX 1050 TI Mini work fine.

In the end I went for an EVGA NVidia Geforce GTX 1050Ti 4GB (04G-P4-6251-KR). It installed trouble free, runs silently and has completely transformed the gaming experience for my children. It was 20% less at the time, so I'm happy with the deal. I would recommend this card.

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your results. There are lots of threads with recommendations, but not so many with actual statistics (like the i5 2500, e.g.)
