Dell Optiplex 320 problem with memory

Hi,

I put 4GB RAM 667MHz into my Optiplex 320 and it worked fine untill I installed GeForce 9400GT graphics card on pci-e slot. Now computer boots very very very slowly, somthing strange happend to my graphic card drivers - I can not install them properly... Where is ther problem? I am sure that my new grapic card is good because I have tested it on second computer. When I am working on integrated card everything is ok.

If there is a problem with my mainboard( DELL 0CU395) is there any solution? Is there any other mainobard which I can put into my computer instead of this one? If there is such mainboard which wolud fit in my computer and it will be working with 4GB of RAM and PCI-E graphics card installed, write down its model

thanks in advance

pit

Most likely a conflict between the 2 video cards. May have nothing to do with the RAM.

Go into the Bios at startup - press F2. Disable the integrated graphics card, see if it runs properly with just the new card.

Isn't it a problem with Dell hardware or bios???

IN USERS GUIDE THERE IS NO INFO ABOUT THIS LIMITATION (4GB RAM does not work with PCI-E card)!!!

so, WHAT I HAVE TO DO???

I am waiting for answer from dell technical support...

I am using Bios 1.1.5 version and there is no option disabling integrated graphics.

In my BIOS in VIDEO section there is only PRIMARY VIDEO option which can have AUTO or OnBOARD value... I tried these two option but it did not helped...  So I can not disable it...

and I do not know what I have to do in this situation... I bought 4GB RAM, graphic card on PCI-E and after installing them in my computer they are not working....

With the Optiplex 320, you can

  • Have 2GB of RAM installed and something sitting in the PCI-E slot, - OR -
  • Have 4GB of RAM installed and nothing sitting in the PCI-E slot

Any other combination will not work.

It's not documented very well. I believe it is a bug in the BIOS. Dell "fixed" the issue by stating that the Optiplex 320 only ever supported at a maximum of 2GB of RAM.
