Don't get any DDR3 card ,frame rates will suffer. GTX750Ti can run off of power supplied by the PCIe 16x slot. It can be found in low profile. PC Partpicker lists some. The Dell PSU may seem small, that's because there are few expansion slots, and drive bays on the SFF so not a lot of accessories can be installed. With 2 GB GPU you should have 5GB RAM even with 32 bit OS. The video card uses memory addresses from the "top down" to store textures. This will leave 3GB for the OS. GT730 1GB DDR5 is recommended for budget applications. (the 2 GB DDR3 is slower). With 1GB GPU= 4GB RAM. The MT case can take full height cards, The DT and SFF require low profile. Single slot cards with 1 fan can fit. The computer is a BTX form factor so aftermarket parts aren't actually made to fit. A single slot card can be 2 slots wide if it's under 6 3/4'' long. The 2nd slot on the video card extends away from the other slots in BTX so there is no hole in the case for the wider bracket. Remove the cover and do some measuring before you buy.

You also need to find out if your BIOS is EUFI, or AHCI type and be sure your video card is compatible.

OptiPlex 755 is not UEFI windows 8 Bios.

SFF does not support GTX750 TI with GDDR5.

ASUS EAH5450 works fine.  HOWEVER in UK they don't ship with the low profile brackets??? as of april 2013?

AHCI vs ATA has zero to do with video cards.

Newer cards from sapphire R4 R5 R7 R9 do not support DOS VESA Video mode 103 and therefore do not post and wont let you into setup.

PCI SERR MSG may need to be turned off to get some cards working.

The ASUS SILENT 5450 fits into ALL Case sizes EXCEPT USFF and Micro. Those sizes have zero slots.

Get an ASUS SILENT RADEON HD 5450.  THE EAH5450 from ASUS fits in ALL Models of GX280 EXCEPT THE USFF Pictured Below.   THE 5450 Comes with 2 sets of brackets for Low Profile or standard slots.

If you have USFF you cannot install ANY card because there are no slots.

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. I had some trouble finding out whether or not my bios was UEFI or not as my PANTHER folder was not as shown on articles I saw. So this post post helps me quite a bit. I do indeed have a SFF, not the smallest form factor. That 5450 looks good, and at a great price too. I'm not looking to get into top tier performance gaming, just wanting something to run a couple of older games. I see on Youtube that it's running a particular title quite nicely on similar specs.

Thanks again for the information, particularly the detail! :emotion-2:

Regards,
Fox

Keep in mind that NOT ALL 5450 cards will work.

The Asus card in particular has no fan and is low profile in both width and height.

Cards with huge heatsinks do not physically fit into an SFF case. Some people overcome these limits by dremeling the internal parts and holding things together with tape.

Brian used an HD5670 Just fine in his 980 DESKTOP

The SKI epic solution was to DREMEL OFF THE HARD DRIVE CASE and use tape to hold the drive in.

Hey,
I hate to cut in on someone elses thread but this talks about my issue too. I have a Optiplex 755 SFF also and I need a gpu upgrade badly. My budget is £50-£60 max. What are the best options? I like some of the stuff here, but I don't think the HD 5450 can quite deliver what I need. Some people online are really adamant it's garbage too, so that's a little off putting.

I was looking at a Radeon R7 250 but you listed the R7 with cards that cannot start because of the bios (I really didn't get the whole thing, I'm not very techy much). This is it:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FSC513G/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3OZXWY5XAF0U6&coliid=I381CFGVYAZ2DN

Or this one:

I've seen other recommendations online but they are well out of my price range and to be honest a bit overkill for what I want and need.

There's also the GeForce GT 610, which is 2GB. It's low profile also and doesn't have a fan (I read somewhere that a fan can be an issue for some unspecified reason).

I don't see any reason why these can't work apart from the R7 for reasons you stated in your first post. But hopefully one of these is okay. If you can add anything else that would be good too. I'm just really paranoid about blowing money on something that isn't going to work, that would be just awful!

Thanks for any help you can give me :)

The first Linked card only fits in the Tower.

The 2nd Linked card may have too tall of a heatsink to fit in sff.

Or you hack, cut, dremel the hard drive caddy and use duct tape to hold a 2.5 inch drive in its place.  Otherwise Physically it may not ever go into the slot and allow you to put the HDD back.

This is one reason why the ASUS EAH 6450 is as good as you can do for SFF because there is ZERO room in there for a thick card that sits next to the hard drive.  Nothing fits in the USFF because it does not have slots.

The following are Dell validated Low Profile PCI-e 16X video cards for the SFF

These cards heatsink DOES NOT Stick out beyond 1 slot wide.

Okay, I see now about the hitsink issue. So the entire card footprint cannot exceed the space of the width or height of the slot size, got it.

So it appears I have some thinking to do here. Perhaps I could get a new case for my PC and get a better card that wouldn't otherwise fit the Optiplex SFF casing. So apart from being physically unable to fit inside the machine, I mean the two links I posted, they would work fine with the actual motherboard and everything? So if I got this for it with enough space everyhting will be okay?

If yes then that will be a relief!

Space is one aspect Power is the other.  You need a bigger PFC 80 percent efficient unit.

Cant use a 75W card in a 25W slot. And there are Issues with DOS VESA mode 103 .  This means R4 R5 R7 R9 cards don't support older dells at least from sapphire.  The card in the video below is a Geforce 760
