Dell Optiplex GX620 Desktop memory upgrade.
Hello, I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 Desktop computer. I bought two new DMS Certified RAM modules 1GB each that totals 2GB. I removed the two old 512MB modules and I am ready to upgrade my memory. My question is, what would happen if I insert the two new modules in the two slots with white clips (DIMM 1 and DIMM 2), and insert the two old modules of a different brand (it says Samsung) into the two slots with black clips (DIMM 3 and DIMM 4)? The Dell manufacturer said it has to be in pairs of equal size, brand, etc... but I'm not sure if one pair can be different than the other pair, like the two pairs I have already? Will this work, or will it possibly damage my computer? I need as much memory as I can get for Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit operating system, thanks..

3 Gig works fine in pairs. Aka 2 X 1 Gig and 2X 512 meg.
However they must be the same speed and same vendor or they may have issues.
The 620 has 4 memory slots.
A
matched pair of memory modules in connectors DIMM1 and DIMM2 (white securing clips)
B
matched pair of memory modules in connectors DIMM3 and DIMM4 (black securing clips).

Hi truffy,
You can connect 2 memory sticks of 1 Gb each and 2 memory sticks of 512 Gb each.
Thanks & Regards

Your system can hold 4GB of memory, Your better off doing 4 x 1GB, or 2 x 2GB of memory,
Memory
Type 533-MHz and 667-MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Memory connectors 4
Memory modules supported 256-MB, 512-MB, 1-GB, or 2-GB non-ECC
Minimum memory dual-channel: 512 MB;
single-channel: 256 MB
Maximum memory 4 GB
BIOS address F0000h
your manual is HERE.

Thanks Robin, I could not get into that manual link for some reason, it doesn't appear to work. I could buy two more 1GB modules to fill up the full potential of my GX620, but my Windows 7 32-bit operating system will only make use of a little over 3GB of the 4GB, as I understand. Is there any way to make it work properly with only 3GB total memory, a pair of 1GB modules and a pair of 512MB modules, without bottlenecking my computer?

Thanks SpeedStep. I guess what the manual is saying is the two pairs can be different vendors, different speeds, but only the paired modules have to be exactly the same memory stick with the same speed and vendor. Is this what the manual is saying?

This second pair of old RAM modules was just installed and they seem to work. I checked my Resource Monitor and everything seems okay. Thanks again.
