Dell Optiplex GX620 Power Adapter
Hi Everybody,
I am a newcomer from the UK. My querry is rather simple. It is about the power adaper of this super-slim PC desktop. I've recently bought this as refurbished.
The computer is connected to the power supply through an adaper. My querry is : does the adpater need to be connected to the power supply all the time? Will the adaper be worn out faster as a result of non-stop connection to the power supply?
At the moment, I keep the adapter connected to the power supply all the time and the green light on the adapter is on all the time and I turn on and off the computer using Windows.
Once I swiched the power adapter off the mains at night after turning off the PC. Next day when I switched on the power adapter, the computer also turned on automatically. I don't know if this is good or bad.
Any clarification will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Leaving the power adapter connected to the mains 24/7 shouldn't be a problem, except that the adapter and PC will be using small amount of power when the PC is off. So you might save a few pence by disconnecting the adapter at the mains after the PC is turned off through Windows.
If the PC reboots when you turn the adapter on at the mains, that probably means the AC Recovery feature is turned on in BIOS setup. That setting tells the PC what to do when it recovers from a power failure. When you turn the adapter on at the mains, the PC thinks it's recovering from a power failure so it reboots. If you don't want that to happen, reboot and press F2 before Windows starts to load, to open BIOS setup. Look for the AC Recovery option and change the setting. Be sure to save the change before exiting setup. See page 9, here.
If you're lazy like me, you can leave AC Recovery on so all you have to do is turn the adapter on at the mains and the PC will boot without having to push the button. :emotion-2:

Many thanks for the clear clarification.
However, I'd like to know the purpose of the adapter - why the PC is not connected directly to the power supply like all other PCs and laptops, why through the adapter.

I have a GX620 SFF, and it is directly connected.

It's possible the PSU inside the GX620 SFF can't use 230 V @ 50 Hz which is what you have in UK so they provided an adapter to lower the voltage to 115V which is what we have in the US. But that's a guess on my part...
