Dell Optiplex GX620 processor

Will my Dell GX620 DMT computer gain any noticable performance replacing my Intel Pentium 4 - 3.20Ghz processor with a  Pentium D  - 960 3.60 Ghz?  I am using Windows 7 64bit with 4 gb RAM.

Thank you.

Hi bpearce737,

There is an extensive thread here with lots of information about upgrading the CPU in a GX620. See if that provides the information you need.

Thank you OsPrey4.  I already read that post before creating this thread but did not find any real evidence that it would increase my computers speed other than, "yes, it is faster" comment.  I was wondering if I will get any real improvement or if the gain would just be marginal.

HA!  Good point, but for the price, I might as well just go get a new computer.

Thanks, suggestion appreciated.

Probably not. If you want a dramatic boost in performance, use an SSD boot drive.

You can always move it later into a new computer, as few are factory-equipped with SSDs.

I have one in my GX620 SFF, and in some metrics it outperforms much newer PCs.
