Dell Precision T3600 problem with headphone feedback
Dear all,
I recently acquired a new Dell Precision T3600 (in January 2013). I have however had a problem with feedback when I insert headphones into the headphone jack at the front of the desktop. The noise can be described as a crackling/buzzing sound which is loud to the point that it is too distracting to listen to audio through it. Audio can be heard through the headphones, however, the feedback is still present and distracting. I have also used many different headphones as to rule out that as the problem.
I would be grateful to hear from others if this is a common problem with this system. I have read elsewhere that it could be an issue with the NVIDA graphics card, but I am not sure.
Kind regards,
Shaun.
Some system components:
- Intel Xeon CPU E5-1603
- Windows 7 OS
- NVIDIA NVS 300 graphics card

This should answer your question.

I just got a T3600 and will be contacting them to get the front I/O panel replaced.

Hi shaunharrigan,
I would advise you to disable the microphone and line in under ‘Recording devices’ tab in Sound and check if you are still facing the same issue.
Also, I would advise you to connect the headphone to the rear sound port (Green) on the CPU and check if you are facing same issue.
If the issue persists from the rear port still please reinstall the audio driver on the system for issue resolution.
Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the operating system, then download the audio driver from Audio section onto the system and install it.

Please let me know if this helps

Hi Ravi,
Thank you for your reply.
1. No, when I disable the microphone's in 'Recording' I do not hear any change to the noise.
2. Yes, I can hear audio when connected to the back green port. It does not have the same feedback background noise, but the sound quality is poor (i.e. it is very low with very little bass tones and is not good (maybe this can be enhanced?}
3. I reinstalled both the newest version of 'Realtek HD audio driver' and Nvidia graphics driver but made no difference to the front headphone port, the noise still persisted.
However when I had both drivers disabled I was still able to hear audio (and the feedback), hence there must be another driver to support audio that I missed to uninstall? I could not find it, should I reinstall the 'Advanced Audio FX Engine'?
I really do not know what could be causing this feedback, the only reason I am so eager to fix it is that I need good audio quality for my work. Any other suggestions would be welcome.
Kind regards,
Shaun.
