Dell Product Key
I know that this may not be the area that I need to be in. Part of my label on the computer case has come off. It holds the Product Key (Which I believe is the serial number). I need to verify the product key number with someone at Dell. (I purchased as Utilities cleanup program - but it would allow me to to load unless I put the Computer serial number in.) Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The serial number of a Dell is the Service Tag number. That is the number you should enter if the software is asking for the computer serial number.
The colored sticker that contains the Microsoft Product Code is the license for the operating system that was delivered with your computer. You do not normally need to enter the product code, although it is best if the sticker (the Certificate of Authenticity) is maintained in good condition. The Product Code is occasionally required to provide evidence of your legal permission to use Windows on your computer.

If you are talking about the computer serial number (as JS said, this is the Dell Service Tag of the system) and it has worn/ripped off, you can get it by opening a Command Prompt (Start, Accessories, Command Prompt) and typing in the following:
wmic bios get serialnumber

Hi,
Am still having a problem.
Followed you instructions and received this message.........................wmic is not recognized as an inernal or external command, operable program
or batch file.
Is there something else we can try?
Thanks

If your talking about the blue sticker, then, use magic jelly keyfinder HERE, and that will find your product key.

I already have the product key number, I am looking for the serial number. My Fix It Utilities program is asking for a serial number. Product key number, service tag, express code were tried as well, but to no avail. Hope this helps you.

If WMIC is not working, Belarc Advisor can get it for you:
www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Or Dell can detect it:
