Dell Studio 19 - trouble with mouse: does not select text

Just bought the Dell Studio 19 in the past weekedn and it is not working properly. I can't select a text, for example. I drag the mouse over the words and it does not select them. While I am doing this, I have the little hand icon (like the one we see in PDF, for example) instead of the regular cursor that shows that the text is being selected. It happens in word, excel, emails (yahoo, hotmail, etc)...

It is pretty basic command, but I can't seem to make it work. Is there any special configuration in the mouse that I should be aware or is it something more serious?

I tried to contact customer service, but because I bought this computer from Sam's Club (teherefore I don;t have an invoice) and I couldn't locate the TAG on the back of the computer... I had NO luck in geeting my questions answered.

HELP! I am thinking about returning this lemon that I got :o(

You can register your Sam's Club computer with Dell. The service tag is somewhere on the computer, not necessarily on the outside where it could be swiped in the store. Look inside on the battery if you have a laptop. Register your new computer HERE.

The mouse settings can be changed by going to Control Panel, Mouse. I don't think you have a problem computer. It just needs resetting. Go to Windows Update to get the latest updates. New computers are always way out of date on those.

The service tag is also kept in the bios and Dell has a "find my tag" utility on the registration page.

I am assuming you are talking about the Studio One 19, because I have the same exact problem. The service tag is directly under where it says dell on the front of the monitor. If you tilt the screen upward you can see it underneath. I bought mine at Walmart, with the extended warranty, and Dell wants $30 to even talk to me about this problem. I completely regret dealing with them. I am a full time online student and can't cut and paste. Makes life miserable. My husband can't do his office work on this computer. We have to pull out the several years old Gateway laptop to do anything efficiently. PLEASE let me know if you found a solution to this issue. I have tried all mouse and touch screen settings to no avail. Not so happy to spend $1000 just for frustration.

I'm also past the 15 days, so no return available. HELP!

Did you ever get an answer to this?  I am getting a bit desparate and it is infuriating.
