Dell Studio 540 processor upgrade (current SLB9U)

Hi!

I have a Dell Studio 540 desktop that i would like to upgrade the CPU on (current CPU is SLB9U). I did that on my older Dell that i had before and it went well ("Shesmygordie" helped me out back then).

Processor
Manufacturer
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz
Clock Speed
2.6Ghz
L2 Cache Size
2048

Regards

Yorkfield Quad Core Q9650, 3.00GHz, 12MB, 1333FSB, E0, is the the largest processor supported by Studio 540.

A list of other Inspiron 540 supported processors can be found Here:

Yes, the Socket LGA 775, Wolfdale Core 2 Duo E8400, 3.0G, will work fine.

Remember to check that the BIOS have the latest version installed, prior to installing the processor.

What is the computer model and the version of windows that's installed?

Did you update the BIOS to the latest version, before installing the e8600 processor?
