Dell System Detect: Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor.

Hi,

I am trying to install dell system detect on a windows 2003 web server ( I know it is old) but it fails. In another post it is recommended to install dotnet 4. Unfortunatelly installing dotnet does not make a difference. Any ideas? Below the error log.

Hi NEBU24,

Dell System Detect software was designed for use on Dell home computer systems running Windows 7 and above. This is the detect system that is readily available for download from Dell Support Website.

If you own an older Dell system running Windows XP or older versions of Windows operating systems such as Windows Server 2003 you will need an older version of Dell System Detect. Yes, there is such a thing, but I do not know if those older versions are still available for download from the Dell Support Website. The older versions of Dell Support Software may or may not work with systems configured with hardware that did not exist from 2005 forward. That is the reason why Dell created a newer version of system detect.

The failure you experience is directly tied to your operating system that does not support the runtime module of the software.

Depending on what you are trying to achieve with Dell System Detect, I would strongly suggest that you try a different approach (software) to detect system analysis. If you are attempting to monitor software application performance, that is a different ball of wax entirely.

Hope this helps
