Dell System Detect -- does not display an interface.
I scanned my T1700 computer with supportassist. It told me to run Dell System Detect to analyze a possible problem with the driver for the DVD R/W. I ran DSD as administrator. No interface comes up to tell me what is going on. In task manager DellSystemDetect.exe shows DSD as loaded under applications.
What could be my problem?

Never mind. I switched browsers from Firefox to use IE and it works now.

Thanks DELL-Infant R,
I started this thread about my T1700 computer. The support software seems to be working with it OK now. The T1700 is new so I thought it would be easiest to tackle that first.
But my real problem is in trying to update the drivers of my Dell Studio 15 laptop. The reason that I am trying to update drivers on the laptop is to see if that will fix the problem that a new document camera is prevented from starting. (Software="Presenter" for a VZ-1 HD VGA/USB Dual-Mode Document Camera) It generates message:
"com.ipevo.presenter has stopped working.
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem ..."
In trying to update the drivers of Studio 15:
1) I downloaded and installed version 6.7.0.2 of DSD on my Dell Studio 15 based on your link using IE.
2) The Drivers Section of DSD generates a list of all of the drivers that I installed yesterday manually from that same list. I expected it to tell me which drivers were out or date but it didn't.
3) There is an "Or" above the list of drivers to install manually -- as if there should be an option above that, but is is missing from the page.
4) The diagnostic section says, for my DVD-RW: "The test cannot be run with media in the drive and/or the drive door open. Please remove any media from the drive and close the door or tray before continuing."
My laptop DVD-RW Drive does not have a door and there is no media in the drive.
5) After running the diagnostic I tried to run the memory stress test from Firefox and DSD wanted to download DellSystemDetectLauncher again. It apparently did not detect that I had just installed the new version 6.7.0.2 of DSD.
6) Then I tried the same from IE but that link to memory stress test just produces a blank white screen in IE.
7) Also, DSD displayed the message "System is out of warranty. Please contact Dell Technical Support at 1-800-822-6031 for further assistance with hardware and software troubleshooting."
Could that by why I am having the problem updating drivers of the Studio 15?

Please uninstall the IPEVO Presenter software on the system and refer to this link http://www.ipevo.com/support and download the software to install.
Please run the diagnostics on the system (hold down the power button and power on the system). You may create a new administrator account and then uninstall the Dell system detect and reinstall the same and then try running in IE. Also request you to please check the device manager if there is any ! or ? marks next to the device.

Hi DELL-Infant R,
I have had more trouble running DSD so I will run it again overnight tonight. Here is what I have done:
"Please uninstall the IPEVO Presenter software on the system and refer to this link http://www.ipevo.com/support and download the software to install."
I uninstalled IPEVO Presenter and reinstall a newly downloaded copy of the current Presenter v5.1.0.32.
"Please run the diagnostics on the system (hold down the power button and power on the system)."
During startup I had to push F12 to run diagnostics. I ran the extended length memory test. No problems detected but I did find one anomaly. In setup, the ESC key and the ALT X do not do anything -- instead of quitting without saving. F10 works to quit with saving. After the F12 diagnostics ran, it automatically started Dell MpMemory v0480. All tests passed.
"Also request you to please check the device manager if there is any ! or ? marks next to the device."
The Bluetooth L2CAP driver for my speakers from Broadcom has a "!" and code 52. According to "update driver" I have the best driver available.
"You may create a new administrator account and then uninstall the Dell system detect and reinstall the same and then try running in IE."
I created a new administrator account. It did not contain Dell system detect so I installed it there.
With IE, on Dell Support page, "Drivers & Downloads", "System Analysis" tab produced a long list of updates.
I checked the six applications shown and put them into List2. Viewing the list, I clicked on "rename list" The list went away. Then I noticed the message:
"Scan Failed
Your product is not supported by the Dell Driver Analyze Utility."
I cannot explain what I did to cause this.
With IE, on Dell Support page, "Drivers & Downloads", "Service Tag" tab produced only one update: Bios version A13. I tried to flash it but was told it was identical to the current BIOS. But according to the description of DSD, it should not have determined that I need to update the BIOS.
I ran the full 40 minute test for hardware problems. It ran for about twice that long and then printed "An error occurred in the Detect System Detect application due to an incorrect time issue." It told me to exit DSD and adjust the time and time zone. I don't know how to adjust the time and time zone. I checked and they are both correct.
From the support page, Detect Product shows correctly Studio 1555, and a Service tag and an express service code. I think they are expired. Do I need to buy a subscription to the support service to be able to run this?
I will try to run DSD again overnight.

Hi DELL-Infant R,
Tonight I was able to run Dell Support Site's [diagnostic] in IE. All tests passed.
I wanted to also update all drivers & downloads that need updating, but I can't figure out how to make it tell me which items need updating on my machine. I downloaded a list of 11 drivers and downloads. (I assume that the list was in Dell's recommended order. I have "install now" on screen for each item, but when I click on "install now" it doesn't do anything. I was able to get to this point by coming through "maintenance" rather than "drivers & downloads".
Q How can I operate once I have "install now" buttons on screen?
iPevo Presenter still can't complete a startup on this Studio 15 W7 laptop but it still runs correctly on my W7 T1700 desktop machine.
I have also been working with iPevo on this problem.

I was mistaken above. The install window did not come out on top, it was underneath and did not show. I was able to run it when I shut IE down. It installed windows media player.

Please let us know if you were able to install all the updates. Then try installing the IPEVO Presenter software. You can swap with a known good hard drive and check if the IPEVO Presenter software works. Also let us know the Studio 15 model number.

"Please let us know if you were able to install all the updates"
Only six of the 11 drivers installed successfully. Here are the results.:
The following updates were successful:
1 Dell DataSafe Local Patch/Upgrade
2 IDT 92HD73C1 Audio, v.6.10.0.6267, A18
3 Dell Studio 1555 System BIOS, A13 (stopped, versions are equal)
4 Intel PM45 s Chipset Family, GM45 Express Chipset Family, PM55 Express Chipset Family, Cantiga Chipset, HM57 Express Chipset Family, v.9.1.1.1015, A01
5 Ricoh Card Reader R5C833/R5U230 Driver
6 Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Minicard Application
"Then try installing the IPEVO Presenter software."
I was able to install, start, and run IPEVO Presenter successfully following the 6 driver updates. It looks like my original problem is fixed! I wonder which driver fixed it?
The following 5 updates were not successful. I would appreciate your advice on how to run about them.
7 Dell 32 Bit Diagnostics (Graphical User Interface version), v.A1367A0 / A0482, A1367A0
("emp.exe Entry point not found. The precedure entry point aout_FormatNbChannels could not be located in the dynamic link library libvlccore.dll")
The program stuck in a loop naming multiple files that could not be located. I killed it with Taskmanager.

"This software package cannot be installed on your system. The setup application will exit"
9 HLDS GA11N 12.7mm SATA Slotload 8X DVDRW Firmware Update
The install program opened File Explorer to a folder containing "DOS" & "Window". I did not know how to react to that. Opening "Window" produced "ga11N-A101/window. "Open" copied a lot of files.I don't know it it ran.
10 Seagate ST9500420ASG/ST9160412ASG/ST9250410ASG/ST9320423ASG/ST980412ASG Firmware Update
This produced File Explorer with two items: "\Files", "Seagate Utility". I don't know which options and what precautions?

Hi DELL Infant R,
Here is my experience in installing the drivers:
Dell Notebook System Software http://dell.to/1WMY79N (Installed)
Intel Mobile Chipset Driver http://dell.to/1LazCam ; (previously OK)
Intel GM45 Video Controller http://dell.to/1MKPcKY ; (Error)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 http://dell.to/1SjvSZD ; (installed OK this time)
Ricoh R5C833 Media Card Controller http://dell.to/1GXan0l (previously OK)
Wireless driver (As per the card installed) http://dell.to/1LaB6S7 (previously OK)
IDT 92HD73C Audio Driver http://dell.to/1MBajni ; (previously OK)
Intel Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300, Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100, v.tic TRWFW0986D , A01 (NOT OK)
"This software package cannot be installed on your system. The setup application will exit"
Dell Touch Pad Driver http://dell.to/1PoZvLq ; (NOT OK)
Synaptics Touchpad setup instructs to first uninstall the existing driver from the Control Panel to prevent errors, but the Control Panel doesn't contain an add/remove for Synaptics. Neither does \program files\ Synaptics contain an uninstall program.
I ran sfc /scannow and it found errors but it did not fix them. I have a CBS.log file but can't find a way to attach it to this post. Also, I don't understand what you meant by: "Restart the system initiate the scan."
For "32bit Diagnostics", instruction says file must be downloaded and run on linux -- which I don't have.
Windows Update -- It runs automatically on my laptop. I checked manually and it is up to date.

Thanks for keeping us updated.
If the Wifi is working fine then you need not worry. If there is a problem, then uninstall the wireless driver first and then reinstall.
For the touchpad drivers please send us a screenshot of the program and features.
Please refer to this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/kb/929833 for sfc /scannow.
To run diagnostics on the system you can hold down the Fn key and turn on the system. To run 32 bit diagnostic on the system, restart the system and start tapping the F12 key to Boot to Utility Partition option, or the Diagnostics option to start the 32-bit Dell Diagnostics.
