Dell XPS 730X - Upgraded Memory only recognizing two sticks

I upgraded my desktop 730x to Crucial 4GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s PC3-12800 CL11 Unbuffered UDIMM 240-Pin Desktop Memory Module CT51264BA160B and the computer is only recognizing two sticks.

I have tried reseating the memory sticks and no change.

Any suggestions?

Don't know how much Kingston RAM was physically installed when you ran that test, but it's only seeing 8 GB. And it doesn't matter if the Crucial scan will run or not.

The question is what is the max amount of RAM that BIOS and the chipset on the motherboard can support?

You can install as much RAM as you want, but if BIOS and the chipset can only use 8 GB, there's nothing you can do to change that. So you may be wasting your money and time...

Hi Batai,

The Dell XPS 730X system uses 1066 MHz and 1333 MHZ DDR3 Unbuffered SDRAM only. The above RAM will not support the system board.

I received and installed three Kingston Technology 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Single Rank DIMM Memory for Dell Desktops (KTD-XPS730BS/4G) and the 730x is still only showing two sticks!

Three sticks of 4 GB RAM..??  What's the max RAM supported by this system?

According to Crucial, the 730 only supports 8 GB max. I assume the 730x is the same, but Crucial doesn't list the 730x separately, and I also assume Crucial is correct about the 730.

I don't see anything about max RAM in the 730x manual. And for specs, it says to see the Reference Guide that came with the system or see Dell's support site, but -of course- the Reference Guide isn't on the support site. :emotion-12:

It appears the crucial scan application doesn't run if non-crucial memory is seated.  I can reseat the crucial memory and run the crucial scan again.
