Dell XPS 8300

Anyone having clock issues with a DELL XPS 8300?  Seems like everyday my clock is off by hours. Just now it was an hour ahead, and the other day it was several hours ahead. This computer isn't hardly a month old. Already got network issues and clock issues.

Your network issues may be related to the time issues (when out of sync, many Windows computers will deny a connection).

Are you running this in a Domain or standalone?  Have you configured (or do you have software installed that might be configuring) a different time server?

If not, then try clearing your NVRAM/CMOS using the jumpers on the motherboard.  If you still are having problems, then replace the CMOS battery (you can call Support for it, but it costs just a few bucks at Walmart or similar).  If it still won't keep time, then your motherboard will need to be replaced.

OMG a motherboard replacement on a brand NEW Dell XPS???? That was one reason I stopped buying GATEWAY and HP/Compaq computers. And standalone setup at home with just the basic software that came installed. I have added one or two things but nothing to do with time updating. A Blu-Ray drive, Crucial SST cache, wireless keyboard and mouse. MS Office Ultimate 2007, 16 Gig of RAM.  I got my network problem fixed by doing a Restore to factory setup repair.  We will see about the clock issue. Now shows 4:22am at 4:22am...time for bed.

I've had that and it wasn't a hardware problem.  I suspect a software issue with a program, but can't say 100%.  I haven't had it for about 7 or 8 months so I assume it's OK now.

When you boot the PC, press F2 to enter the setup and check the time in the setup.  If it's correct there that says the hardware is OK.

Electronics can fail ... that just comes with the territory; you buy enough, and the odds will catch up to you.  It stinks, but it happens.  Computer manufacturers all get parts from the same places, so no manufacturer is immune - the difference is in how they take care of problems.

Hopefully that is all it was; and if I was awake seeing the clock at 4:22AM, I would HOPE it was wrong :)

Heck sometimes I don't get home from work till about 4am.  With the Restore to Factory settings the clock seems to be working properly along with the networking. Must have been a corrupt file in Windows 7 x64 Professional.
