Dell Zion 400HD Wireless speed
I have a Dell Zion 400 HD with a DELL WIRELESS 1520 (802.11N) card factory fitted. It typically runs at only two bars out of five at about 18Mbs. The AP is in the next room and I don't have a problem in there with the Latitude D610 laptop with a similar wireless card. The Zion came with Windows 7 Home premium Any ideas what is not configured correctly?

Ok, here's the link I was thinking of...
See if the the last post in this thread by Stevecfo provides a solution to your problem.

Do you have a Zino rather than a Zion?
There is a Networking section on the forum for wireless issues. However, there is probably nothing you can do with software or configuration. If the receiver is only getting that much signal, maybe an external antenna, if that is possible, would help or moving or orienting it different can help.

You are correct it is a Zino, I must be getting dyslexic in my old age! There was another difference as well the laptop has a DELL WIRELESS 1370 (802.11 G) and the wireless router is a Linksys WAG200G which is also 802.11G. I know that 802.11N is backward compatible but could that be anything to do with the problem.
Following your suggestion though do you know if there is an external aerial

I know nothing about the unit and there is nothing that I find in the manual about adding an external antenna.
Maybe someone on the Networking forum section will have more info.

There actually was a recent post about a software fix for the speed issue with the Zino network card. If I remember correctly, it was actutally a Microsoft solution that required just a settings change.
Search these forums to see if you can find that post. If I find it, I'll post the link in this thread.

Thanks Ron, that has done the trick. It is the first time I have ever seen 54Mbs traffic speed and I have 4 out of five bars now.
