razor-rich

The 530 systems were build with two different models of motherboards.

If your 530 was purchased with a Core 2 Duo processor and a 300w power supply, this PC may have 0RY007 motherboard, that supports Core2 Duo processors only.

To use both Quad 4 & Core2 Duo processors, you need the 0FM586 motherboard and a 375w power supply.

You can use up to a Core 2 Duo E8400.

Any idea if the 530 can go up to the E8600 or E8500? From what I read up on - mine came with a duo so it can't do a quad, but I am hoping to go from my E4300 to a E8600 or E8500 replacement CPU.

You should be able to install a Wolfdale Dual Core, E8500, 3.16GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W processor.

Prior to installing, check that you using the latest BIOS version.

Hello...

Same question, but I do have the 0FM586 A00 board.  The Q8200 is in there right now.  What's the top range CPU that can be upgraded to?

Thanks,

Jon

For any of you out there/still searching/following this thread- I went for a E8400 which seemed the best price/performance trade-off...  Upgrading from my E4300 which shipped with my Inspiron 530.

Bought all I needed from New Egg:

CPU INTEL|C2D E8400 3G 775 45N R
CPU THERMPASTE|AS5-3.5G %
CPU CLEAN|ARCTIC CLEAN ACN-60ML %

total cost (free shipping):
$188.96

If anyone has additional questions reply to this post and I can offer more details.

Thanks!

What about quad core?  What's the top end quad core model available for this board?

Before installing you need to update the BIOS to the latest version, as with BIOS Version: 1.0.15, support for new Intel CPUs was added.

OK, here’s the deal. (Very Long Read, Lots o’ links)
I have an Inspiron 530 w/Q6600 2.4GHz Quad Duo. I am looking to upgrade it more than I already have.
This is what I started with vs. what I have now.
System as Purchased from Dell:
CPU: Q6600 2.4GHz G0 1066FSB 65nm
Mobo: Dell P/N: 0FM586 aka Foxconn G33M aka DG33M03
Chipset: Intel G33 (ICH9R)
BIOS: 03/17/08 – Rev 1.0.12
Memory: Dell P/N: A1213012 4GB 4x 1GB DDR2 800MHz FSB
PSU: 350W LITEON PS-6351-2
Graphics: Dell P/N: WX094 NVidia 8600GT 256MB PCI-E
Sound: Embedded Realtek 7.1 ALC888 (Died)
HDD: Seagate 250GB SATA (ST3250310AS)
CD/DVD: PBDS DH-16WS1 SATA DVD+/-RW
OS: MS Windows Vista 32-Bit
Current System:
CPU: Same
Mobo: Same
Chipset: Same (Duh!)
BIOS: 03/11/2009 – Rev 1.0.18
HDD: Same
OS: MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
Here are my questions:
Question 1: What, if any Yorkfield Core 2 Quad 1333MHz FSB CPU “CAN” I install in “THIS” system?
Question 2: If I can, could I also install the “S” type CPU (aka 65 Watt type)?
Question 3: Again, if possible a CPU with 1333MHz FSB, Can DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) RAM throttle back to 667 for correct timing ratio?
I Know I can’t use 1333MHz DDR3 on this board. Or can I?
Question 4: What is the Clock Generator IC Number on this Mobo? Mine is too faded to make out.
The Motherboard definitely “looks” like the 530a variant. (No Floppy Drive).
I know that the G33 Chipset can accept FSB up to 1333MHz, 45nm Processors & 8GB of RAM (I have proved the RAM)
I know that DELL has “Updated” the BIOS to “Add support for new Intel CPUs”.
After contacting DELL Support, they informed me that “It should” run the following CPU’s according to their documentation. They had no idea what I was talking about in regards to the clock generator. And they noted that 1333MHz FBS is not listed in their Mobo information.
I have combed the Internet and looked at endless forums & discussions, but to no avail. The only thing I have found is contradictory statements, non backed-up theories, off-the-cuff speculation & complete false information. Thats why I am here.
I am not the type of person who is willing to OC without sound facts & examples. So please don’t take offence, but only respond if you can back up your statements with verifiable proof.
Bottom Line, I want to install a Q9650 in my machine, but want to “KNOW” it will work without hoping.
Thank You.

Excuse me... Here's a question- how do you UNSUBSCRIBE from one of these threads once you posted, got a response, and you no longer want to read them? Anyone? Can't seem to figure it out.

... ok-

Ok- sorry- I think I have to Post a message an uncheck the box for "email me replies"- at least that's what I read elsewhere in these forums.
