Hi RoryPL,

Thank you for reaching us on Dell Community Forum.

Please try the below mentioned steps to fix the issue.

1. Please shut down the computer and Disconnect external peripherals like (Printer, USB drives), press and hold power button for a minute, which will release the flea power.

2. Restart the computer and tap the F12 and select the option Diagnostics.

3. Please run complete Diagnostics on your computer and let us know if you come across any error message.

Please complete the same and post your answers here.

Please help My Pc will not boot up no matter which options I try. It says on start up that it is trying an automatic repair but it never works and I cant refresh the pc either. I am having the same problem as Rory except I never receive any error messages until I try refreshing from my recovery disk. "Error 0x4001100200001005" while the hard drive is being prepared. That is as far as it will go. I read that this error comes up when you try to install a different hard drive, but I am still using the original. I have run the Diagnostics and everything passed. Any suggestions? Thank you

Hi, Thanks for your reply and I did what you said however it didn't report any problems and the computer still wont start. The PC still reverts back to automatic repair and always ends with 'Automatic repair cant repair your PC.... log file c /windows/system32/logfiles/srt/srttrail.txt Any suggestions? Please help as my wife is going mad as our PC contains years of family photos. Kind regards Rory.

I also had the same problem but it started with a failure to boot messagE after the computer was switched off for a fortnight. I went through various steps suggested on the web to resolve issue and ran full diagnostic which found everything ok. I now no longer get the failure to boot message but go directly  to troubleshoot screen which declares it cannot resolve the problem.

help!

Hi RoryPL,

Thank you for your message, the missing files are the system registry files which will cause your hard drive to crash or the OS will not load properly. You will have to Re-Install the OS on your computer in order to use the system. Unfortunately we do not have to option to back up the data from your Hard drive. Kindly confirm the same so that we can provide you steps so restore the computer to Factory settings.
