Dimension 2400 Max Ram

The Dell specs claim that a Dimension 2400 can take only 2-512mb memory sticks. Most other (Dell) forums claim that with alittle "tweaking", you can get 2-1gb memory sticks to work. Does the memory need to be paired and how do I get the 2400 to accept 2gb?

www.crucial.com says you can upgrade to 2 GB ram. I would go by their assessment. However, spending money on more than 1gb of ram on the 2400 would be overkill, IMO. The 2400 is a budget model, can't run Vista and will still have mostly slower components. 1 GB should be plenty of ram. If you need more, consider an upgrade to a newer computer.

If you are using intergrated graphics and not a PCI video card, then I would install 2gb [2x1gb] of RAM.

The memory does not have to be installed in pairs, it's single channel.

All you need to do, is install the memory modules and providing the memory is compatible, it should be recognized in the system setup [BIOS].

Hi,

I tried to put a 1GB ddr400 ram module in my dimension 2400. As soon as I plug it again, it doesn't stop to sound and back lights B and D remain yelow.

I wonder if there is any bios adjustment to let my pc accept this module.

Sorry, but there are no BIOS settings to make non-compatible memory, compatible.

You need to replace the memory module.

Go to www.Crucial.com and use their memory selector to find the right RAM for your system.

Did you try it? I contacted Dell directly with the same question.

I was told that despite what the manual says, my Dimension 2400C can use 2gig.

They offered to sell me a pair of 1G DDR Memory Modules (PC3200). The product page for this memory module indicates compatibility with the DImension2400.

Hello,

It seems it can accept 2GB. My module was ddr400, which is not accepted.

Well here's the REAL deal. I have a Dimension 2400 that I'm using right now to type with. The specs are as follows : Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz (Northwood Processor - Socket 478) Motherboard: Intel i845G Rev. A1 - Bios: Dell Rev. A05 - Memory: OCZ 1GB x 2 =2GB DDR PC3200 (200Mhz) Unbuffered Modules. Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS PCI (512MB) - OS: Windows XP Professional SP3. Power Module: APEVIA 680Watt Multi Color Illuminated. I have been running the 2GB ram for at least 4 years now with no problem. In fact it makes my DELL run like its on steroids! What the owner's manual specs say are irrelevant here. 2GB is possible and my computer is proof that it works! Happy modding, and feel free to ask if you need more help or have further questions! :emotion-11:

The Dimension 2400 was built with two different PSU's, a 200w and 250w version.

If you have the 250w power supply installed, then there should no need to upgrade the power supply.

I upgraded my power supply on the Dimension 2400 to an APEVIA 680Watt Multi Color Illuminated module for INTEL motherboards. Hope this helps.
