Dimension 2400 - RAM and BIOS problems

Hi.
I've owned a Dell Dimension for a little over a year now, and recently decided to upgrade my RAM. I bought 512 Mb RAM, which fits my system perfectly and worked for a time.

Now, when I have the new RAM installed I can't seem to boot up windows. It loops in a never ending cycle of rebooting. (excuse my way of talk, i'm rather young but trying my best to make sense)

I assume that I need to update my BIOS. I don't think I have ever done this since buying my Dimension. I went to the downloads section for my Dimension, and it has new BIOS, but apparently I need to boot them from a Floppy. Unfortunately from me, my 2400 doesn't have a floppy drive.

If anyone could possibly point out what the problem is, or how to rectify it, could you please reply. It would be much appreciated. If you need more computer specs or problem details, if you ask i'll look them up and post.

Thanks

I seriously doubt that upgrading the BIOS will solve your problem.  If your computer ran before under the current BIOS and you have not added any new hardware, then a BIOS upgrade will not help.  If you insist on upgrading the BIOS go to the following site and page down to read the installation instructions.  The file D2400A05.EXE can be run from your hard drive within Windows and does not require a floppy drive.

Thank you Steve.

I think your right, in the fact that the BIOS won't solve the problem.
I looked at the website of the company that sold I bought the memory from, and I beleive I may have bought the wrong memory.

I just don't understand why it worked for a few hours then crashed my PC suddenly.
