Dimension 4600: AGP or PCI???

i have a GF6800 AGP card currently and im think of upgrading... seems like all the new cards are PCI express only.. my question is, is the Dimension 4600 AGP only.. or does it by chance also have a PCI express slot?

Im trying to find a GF 7900 but they all seem to be PCI
if my comps AGP only id need a completely new motherboard with PCI express, right?

side note... does anyone know if the nvidia 7900 comes in AGP form?

Your system is AGP only.  It cannot accept PCI-E.

As of now the Nvidia 7900 does not come in AGP format.  The most powerful AGP card you could put into your Dim. 4600 at the present time is the Nvidia 7800GS  AGP.

Only from Dell.  You can still get a motherboard with the AGP slot.  Everything is now moving to the newer PCI-Express slots

well what if i want a new Motherboard that has a PCI slot instead of AGp BUT i want to keep my Processor and Ram and Power supply... does anyone know of a motherboard that is compatable with everything thats in a 4600?....

Basically i want everything to be the same except the Video card slot. is this do-able?

No, not even close. Everything has changed since the 4600 was released.

A 7800GS would be a fairly big upgrade from a regular 6800, so it might be worth it. Otherwise you're better off just making do or buying a whole new system.

really?...every piece of hardware in my 4600 is pretty much usless for upraging?.... hmm then this realyl is a problem... im really not sure if its worth getting a 7800GS ... it wont run dx10 and in another 6 months most new games will be using it

A handful of new games might support Direct X 10 in (a bit over) eight months (Vista dosen't even come out 'till January), but nothing available now is Direct X 10 class hardware, and it'll be years before you NEED DX 10 class hardware.

Im going to get a NVidia 7800 GS OC video card, do I need to up my Dimension 4600's power supply in order to use it? I believe it requires 400W.

You shouldn't, no. Serveral people have reported success with the 7800GS on your power supply.
