Dimension 4700C network driver not working? XP PRO SP3
Just reloaded the OS and installed all drivers from here:
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/dimension-4700c.html
I stared with the chipset driver first then did the rest, all drivers installed except for the PCI Modem and Network controller, below is the Device Instance ID for the Newtork driver but I am not finding anything on the net, help please?
PCI\VEN_14E&DEV_170C&SUBSYS_017B1028&REV_02\4&10416D21&0&38F0

Hi mikehende,
Thank you for reaching out. Please refer the following link to download and install the network controller drivers for Dimension 4700C: http://dell.to/1c2JrfD
In addition, I would request you to provide me the Device Instance ID for PCI modem so that we can check the details and provide you the correct drivers.

Hello and thanks for the help! No need for the PCI modem I think. Anyway, I am wondering why when I typed the device ID in google, it produced no results, can you tell me how you were able to find the correct driver using that ID please?

Because you are missing a 4.
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_170C
14E4 means the vendor is Broadcom.
This is the Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller.
According to drivers and downloads for your model it should be: http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01709027M/2/R86360_ZPE.exe
R86360 is old however v4.60. You can get the legacy XP driver direct from Broadcom which is 14.8.05a:
http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netxtreme_desktop.php?legacy=1
If you do this update it via the device manager, right click the device and select update driver.
Please note that Windows XP Reaches its End of Life in less than 6 months for more information see: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/endofsupport.aspx

Thank you very much for this help! If ok with you, can you answer just 2 more questions for me please?
1] I made the mistake by leaving out the '4' because I have to type all of those many numbers on another pc, I tried copying the highlighted device ID but it does not give me the copy option, can you tell me if there is an easier way to go about this for future reference?
2] I see in your post that XP will no longer be supported in a while, what happens after that, will dell no longer have drivers available to the public for it?

It means that Microsoft will no longer be providing security updates for XP, leaving your PC more vulnerable to malware.

I doubt Dell will remove their XP drivers but who knows.

Ok, thanks for the info guys, any idea of my other question or is that the only option, to manually type that long list of numbers and letters of the device ID on google?

You have websites like:
http://www.pcidatabase.com/
You can search for the 4 digit vendor ID e.g. 14E4 = Broadcom, 8086 = Intel
The next 4 digits are the device ID.
e.g. PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_170C
This site doesn't have all hardware IDs and can be slow to update but as your hardware is quite old most of them will be listed.
Follow Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean install of Windows XP Step 5 for more details on getting the correct drivers from Dell:
