Dimension 5100c Processor Upgrade
Hi, i have a question about upgrading the processor on my Dimension 5100c. It has the standard Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz in it, but i would like to upgrade it to a core 2 duo 3.0 Ghz. Besides a CPU fan, which i'm pretty sure i would have to upgrade, is this feasible? It has the same socket type as mine (775). Here is a link to the processor:

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks. Oh, just in case you need it, it is running Windows 7/XP in a dual boot config. It runs well, just looking to get some more power under the hood. Thanks.

Core 2 Duo processors are not supported by the Dimension 5100c, due to the limitations of the voltage regulators on the 5100c motherboard.
Socket LGA-775, Prescott processors only

Hi Bev, thanks for your help. That kind of sucks to hear, but such is life. Another question i have for you, if you don't mind, because you seem to know your stuff, is are there any dual core processors available that would work for this thing? i found a single core 3.6 Ghz on ebay for 10 bucks, but i really would like to put a dual core in it, as they perform so much better. Thanks for your help. I will post a link of what i am looking at:

Thanks again for your help!

Sorry, no Dual Core anything.
Prior to installing the processor, check that BIOS version A03, when support for newer processors was added, is installed.
Here is a list of known supported processors.

Prescott P4 64bit 551, 3.4GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
Prescott P4 520, 2.8GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0

Thanks again Bev, i hate to beat a dead subject, but i'm going to ask anyway. I found this particular processor on a website; It's specs are as follows:
Processor Specifications:
sSpec Number:
SL7Z5
Processor Model: Pentium 4 HT
Processor Number: 660 Code Name: Prescott
# of Core: 1 Instruction Set: 64-bit
# of Threads: 2 Lithography: 90 nm
Clock Speed: 3.60 GHz Thermal Design Power: 115 W
L2 Cache Size: 2 MB VID Voltage Range: 1.200V - 1.400V
Bus/Core Ratio: 18 Thermal Case Specification: 70.8°C
FSB Speed:
800 MHz
Sockets Supported: PLGA775
It appears to match the specs of all the processors you listed for me, EXCEPT it is about .2GHz faster. I pulled up Processor 650 on another website, compared specs, and they were identical, except this one was faster. Would This one work? I am sorry for asking so many questions, i am just trying to make an informed purchase for this thing. Don't get me wrong, the 2.8GHz processor in it now is fine, i just want something a little bigger. Thanks for all your help.
