Dimension 5150 - Win7 Network, Graphics and Audio Drivers

Good evening, I have a 5150 with 2GB RAM on which I now need to take the Win7 walk of death. I would need the Windows 7 network driver, as well as Widows 7 ATi video and SigmaTel audio drivers.

However, when I go on the Dell site, the OS list doesn't go any further than Vista. I really can't afford to replace my PC which has given sterling service over the 7-8 years of its life.

Thanks for your attention

Pete

For best results install a Crucial M500 or Samsung 840 Evo SSD and install Windows 7 64 Bit on it.

For drivers see here:

For detailed installation instructions see Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows 7:

There's no "walk of death"; I upgraded a 5150 for a relative last year, and said relative was delighted, saying it was like having a new computer. This particular 5150 was retrofitted with a Samsung 840 SSD and Windows 7 Professional x64; if I remember correctly, all the drivers were on the Windows 7 disk. Better yet, the OEM Office 2003 applications reinstalled without issue, saving the owner from expensive upgrades.

Dell doesn't support this model for Windows 7, because it was long off the market by the time that operating system was released. Still, it's made from commodity hardware, all of which (apart from peripherals like PCI modems) has Windows 7 drivers available.

If you're on XP, I'd suggest exporting your settings via Windows Easy Transfer, clean-installing without reformatting and creating an account with the same name as the old XP account, and then importing the exported settings into Windows 7.

Thank you all for for your replies!.

My biggest concern is around the network driver. When I reinstall XP, although the Windows installation states that it is "Installing Network", I can't see my BTHub 3 until I then install the Dell network driver that came won the original installation disks.

I'm worried that the Win7 network driver won't allow me to see the Hub either, and if I don't have the eqivalent of my current Dell driver, I'll be in trouble.

The Windows 7 driver is newer and more up to date than the driver provided by Dell and will work out the box. We have tested this system with Windows 7.

Windows XP does not have anywhere near the number of drivers inbuilt as Windows 7 has.
