I am working on a Dimension 8110 with a Celeron D processor.  2.53/256/533. SL8HK.  I have upgraded the Ram and am looking to upgrade the processor.  My sister does not want to spend the money to purchase a new system right now.

It runs Ok, but if I can make it work a bit faster for her it would be appreciated.

I have looked at the family of processors and it looks as if 2.93 was the max before the 775 processor was introduced.

Processor is socket 478 2.53/256/533 SL8HK.

What is the maximum processor  that the Dimension 8110 motherboard will handle?

Will it accommodate a a P4 with 512 or 1m L2 cache?

Will a Bios upgrade be necessary?

There is no Dimension 8110, but there is a Dimension B110/1100, if this is your computer, then any Socket 478 Northwood or Prescott P-4 processor, will work in the B110/1100, with an FSB specification up to 800 MHz.

The maximum is a 3.8GHz.

The B110/1100 also, supports Hyper-Threading technology, P-4 processors.

The maximum Socket 478 Celeron-D supported is the 3.2 GHz.

Thanks Bev,

To be honest when I was getting the model number it was a little dark, so  OOPS on my part. It is a B110.

L2 cache.  What will the B110 handle.  512 or 1M?

Does the Bios need to be upgraded?
{unsure of current version (I don't have the machine in front of me)}

Which bios version is recommended for the faster CPU's?
(If it needs to be upgraded.)

What is the best site to get the updated Bios?
(I ask only because I have found some sites are not as reputable as others.)

Is there a Dell site to get the specifications on these motherboard and other Dell system specs?
I don't mind looking up this information when it can be found without drilling down multiple layers of the MFG website. Then by happenchance find the information page I have been looking for.

Thank you again

The B110 supports both the Northwood [512kb] and Prescott [1mb] Socket 478 P-4 processors.

Before upgrading the processor, install the latest BIOS version A01.

You can find the BIOS HERE

All the information Dell has for the B110 is HERE
