Dimension 8200 won't start

Yesterday I moved this machine from my house to my office.  Hooked everything up and..... nothing!  No sound, no lights, no nuthin.
I read some of the forum posts and did the following:
1. I unplugged everything inside.
2. I tested power supply by jumping green to black, it works ok.
3. I pulled the memory, peripheral cards, cpu,
4. plugged the unit in and only get a green light on the mobo.  no other activity.
5. no light on power switch, so I pulled off the cover down to the switch.  Led's don't light up.
I know this is leading up to a mobo problem, just wanted to ck to see if anyone knows of anything else to do before i junk the box.

Slight chance the front panel connector (either end) came loose.

BUT, when you first plug power in, even then nothing happens but the MB LED?  Even without the power switch, it's supposed to come on for ~1 second (to read the 'last state' out of EEPROM).

When you jumpered green to black, the PS fan came on, right?  Do that again, with the CD drive power connected, and see if the drawer will open.  You can also power the HDD and listen for it to spin up.  That confirms 5V and 12V power.

So it appears the MB is not issuing the start command to the green wire.  If the MB LED is on and you don't get the ~1 second startup, you guessed it, MB is bad.

thanks for the heads up.  will try the power on test w/ cd connected.  i already ckd the ends of the front switch for seating (unplugged then replugged).  i took the plastic cover off the front to observe the LED's at power on.  nothin lighting up at all.

Same thing happened to me last weekend to my Dimension 8200.  I went through all the steps to test what it could be but still nothing.   Computer went from blinking amber light to nothing.   I am still trying to figure out if I need a new power box or not.     They last 7 years I have read, and my computer is seven years old.

ONE THING I CAN TELL YOU.    I never knew this until I read some posts.  I did not lose my Hard Drive and was able to easily convert my internal drive to an external drive by purchasing a USB IDE enclosure.  IOMAGIC http://www.iomagic.com/Products/show_all_results.asp?ProdID=I35USBEN

Just thought I would post this in case you did not know.

I went out and bought a new computer, I needed a reason anyway.  Let me know if you do get power and what your resolution was if you can.

Good luck

Hi before you switch out the motherboard pop out the battery on the motherboard and let it stay out for about 20 minutes then put it back in and then see if it will come on, also you didn't state whether it was working when you had it in your house, it might be a good idea to put in a new battery and see if that helps, it takes a 2032 model battery, also did the motherboard that you got off Ebay it was made for a Dimension 8200 right, because not all motherboards will work in a Dell, Hope this helps,   Terry
