Dimension 8300 / Front USB Ports

Hello again!!

I'm back with the same question...Has Dell done anything about the front USB ports not reading thumb drives? They read my camera, so I know they are functional. Any response is better than none! Thanx

you probably have a fat bodied thumbdrive that you simply can't connect far enough in to draw enough power to it. the original lexar thumb drives were like this, thats why their newer drives are much more slim and fit more easily.

I've found using an USB extension cable resolves the problem quite nicely.

Dont know if this is of any help to you as I havnt a clue what a "thumb drive" is?, but I can tell you that the Logitec joystick that doesnt work in my front USB ports on my 8200, (why is that anyway?), does work on the front usb on my 8300, so I guess they have done something about whatever it was that was wrong?

its probably the same problem that there isnt enough power for it to work.

go to lexar.com to check out jump/thumb drives.

Thanks for all! Dan39 had the answer...The problem is caused by a short connector into the port. If I push hard into it, it will make the connection. Once released, however, it loses it. Maybe engineers at Dell can work on that?
