Dimension 9150 question

Question

Hey guys, I currently have a Dimension 9150 and I would like to upgrade the processor to a Pentium D 960. Current CPU is a Pentium D 820. Code name: SmithField Motherboard info: Socket: LGA775 Model: 0FJ030 FSB: Bus 800MHz Chipset: i945P Memory : DDR2 400/533MHz SDRAM DIMM Slots 4 – Max Memory Support 4GB Current BIOS: Brand: Dell A03 Date: 1/03/2006 I have never updated the bios. Should I update? This is the CPU I'm looking at buying: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Pentium-D-960-3-6G-LGA775-4M-L2-cache-Dual-Core-SL9AP-/280765930160?pt=CPUs&hash=item415ef41ab0 It's only 50 bux but I don't wanna waste the money if it isn't going to work. If it did work, would I notice that much in performance? Thanks a lot guys I really appreciate any help.

Andrew,

The Intel Pentium D 960 Presler 3.6GHz LGA 775 Dual-Core Processor should work, but before installing check that you have BIOS Version A04, or higher installed, because with this version, support for newer processors was added.

A warning, a BIOS upgrade should not be taken lightly, as a failed, or corrupted BIOS flash can brick the motherboard.

Did some more research and found out that my current CPU is a SmithField which made the Pentium D 820, 830, and 840 in May 2005 and are made with 90 nm-process cores.

Presler made the 915, 920, 925, 930, 935, 940, 945, 950 and 960 in Jan 2006 and are made with 65 nm-process cores.

So I guess the question is, will my motherboard run the 65 nm-process Presler cores? 900 Series chips.

I have no idea what that is. So you're saying that it won't run the Pentium D 960 Presler chip? I posted a link to the exact one I'm talking about on Ebay in my first post.
