Dimension C521 CPU upgrade
I've got a C521 that is running a stock AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+, and would like to upgrade the CPU to be able to edit HD videos.
From what I've read after searching regarding this topic that the fastest CPU upgrade one has tried is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000. Shame on me when I didn't jump on the deal when it was ~$60 a few months ago and now it's not available (from Newegg). Sure, there are other places where this CPU can be purchased, but now it's ~$100.
The questions are:
1. What's the best bang for the buck for the fastest CPU upgrade?
- X2 5400 Brisbane 2.8GHz - $65
- X2 5600 Brisbane 2.9GHz -$67
2. What about the AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Kuma 2.7GHz Socket AM2+ CPUs? Yes, some AM2 motherboards will accept AM2+ CPUs. Dunno about the C521's mobo. I would like to know if anyone has tried. The latest BIOS that I found was 1.1.11, dated 9/4/2007 so I'm not too confident that it will work.

Unfortunately with Brisbanes, some people get them to work on a 521 and some people don't. There doesn't seem to be any pattern either. Just recently a member tried a 5000+ Brisbane and hasn't gotten it to work, yet I know of an individual that got a 6000+ Brisbane to work. Go figure. Most people however don't have any issues with the Windsors. If you can find one, that's what I would recommend. As for the Kuma I doubt it, but maybe someone has given it a try.
