Disabling onboard Video

Can someone please tell me how to permanently disable the onboard video card? Everytime I open the Device Manager it keeps popping up as if it were new hardware or something. I have a feeling it's interfering with my PCI card. Any help is MUCH appreciated.

Also, I was wondering how to update my BIOS?? Thanks in advance guys!

See the Video Section in your System Setup program (BIOS):

it looks like you have to set the primary video controller to the PCI card.

It's a Dimension 3000. Sorry about that, and also for posting twice, didn't mean to.

We can't see which model computer you have from this end of the internet.  It would be helpful if you told us which model you have so that we can point you to the documetation for your system.

I did try to remove the onboard video card in Windows's Device Manager.. should I have not done this??

So I went into the Setup and there's only two settings, Auto and Onboard. I changed the setting to Auto when I put the new video card in. Am I right in assuming that there will be no way of completely disabling/uninstalling the onboard video?

On that model, you apparenlty cannot disable the onboard video.   It shouldn't be a problem with a PCI card installed when set to Auto, unless you also tried to remove the onboard card in Windows's Device Manager.

When you remove it in Device Manager, the next time you boot, Windows will see it and try to install drivers for it.  That is apparently what's happening.   So long as the BIOS is set to Auto, Windows will use the PCI card.  So, don't remove the onboard video from Device Manager and your problem should be solved, once the drivers for the onboard video have been reinstalled.

F2 in bios, onboard vidio is set to auto. Divice manager, right click and disable onboard graphics. That's all you have to do to install a card. If you uninstall, everytime you boot, if will reinstall the onboard chip.
