Perhaps the game/program you're trying to run is running in compatibility mode, i've seen this before, where windows doesn't switch the resolution back. Right click the program you are running, go to properties, click compatibility, and clear all the checks (if there are any). the other thing you could try is creating a new user profile and seeing if the problem follows the user, if it works fine on the new user, move your data over :)
Ck'd for compatibility issues, nothing was checked but the game involved is fairly new and the resolution reverts to 640x480 on reboot whether I run the game or not. Thanks anyways.
