Display driver failure, machine runs in low resolution!
A month ago my Inspiron crashed and refused to boot up. I wiped the hard disc and re-installed windows Me, supplied by dell. After installation the PC warned me that the display driver was not responding and needed to be re-installed. I have since re-installed the driver, (which appears to install ok), but it does not run the display. Also I have downloaded a new screen driver from the dell website but still this didn't work. I have re-installed windows about 10 times but the same problem occurs.
My machine currently runs in a 16 colour low resolution mode and on boot-up I get a message saying that the display driver is not operating properly. I have tested all the system hardware with the dell diagnostics disc provied with the machine but the tests always show everything working ok. I have tried to install Xp but the instalation always hangs at the screen driver instalation point. The only thing that I can think of is that there is a problem with the BIOS but I'm nervous to re-flash the bios as incase this causes more problems.
Any advice would be welcome.

Try posting in the INSPIRON message board, you will get faster reply to your problem...
Re-Installing your operating system will not help your display driver problem. You need to install the video drivers from the Dell supplied CD.
