Display driver problem

Hello, I just got a new Dell Dimension 3000 computer 3 weeks ago...and just 3 days ago started receiving a message something like this: ialmrnt has caused your display driver to stop functioning normally. It said to reboot to return to full functionality but I did several times but it would mess up again, looking as if it were in safe mode. Eventually I got a blue screen saying ialmrnt5 got stuck in an infinite loop. I then called Dell tech and they returned my system to the way it was when I got it. Well all was fine until a few hours ago when it happened again. I rebooted and it hasn't happened again since, but I'm afraid it will. I have updated my McAfee security suite since then (I was reinstalling it).
I thought the problem was taken care of:womansad::smileymad:
Please help, thanks.

Internet Lady,

I have the exact same problem.  I haev an Inspiron 6000 and the ialmrnt issue is usually triggered by any 3D applications or anything that doesnt run specifically within windows.

No help from dell unfortunately,  and I have no solution.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I figured out it had to do with 3D applications and try to avoid them; it's only happened again once when I tried to play a certain kind of game with a lot of graphics.

Ok... that message about "ialmrnt" having problems or stuck in an infinite loop are referring to your graphics chipset from Intel. It should mean that you don't have an actual video card, but an integrated chipset embedded in the motherboard that is performing that particular function for you. Unfortunately, these are notorious for being incompatible with a growing number of 3D accelerated games, as you've been finding out - especially the newer or more demanding ones.

First thing to try would be to determine exactly which one you've got and get (and install) the latest drivers from Intel. My wife has a Dell 2400 with such a chipset and that's what I check when she has problems. The last several times, downloading the latest replease of their drivers (which do seem to get updated on a fairly regular basis) allowed her to play the games. You will find some, however, where Intel chipsets are specifically listed in the "does not work on" category.

Secondly, there may be some specific graphics options in the games that you would need to either turn down or off. Pixel Shaders, Shadows, things like that. First things first, however, and that would be to check on the state of your drivers.

So... any idea what you've got there under the hood?

driver date is 10/14/2005. updated via windows update

latest driver (november) will not install.  message received:  this driver cannot be installed on this computer,  contact your system manufacturer.

Not surprising in the least.

I was on the phone with dell support all day yesterday and their solution each time was to hang up on me after leaving me on hold for 20 minutes.  The exception was the genius who referred me to dell on call which quoted that they could fix the problem for a measley 99 dollars, (despite the fact that I've already spent approximately 400 for my extended warantees.  Maybe I should take them up on the offer (provided that I have some guarantee in writing).

Stellar support.

Thanks!

I just got an XPS M140 and am also getting the "ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally" error message while playing a game.  Needless to say it is frustrating to have a new computer not working and it looks like others are having the same problem.  You say to download the latest drivers.  I'm not sure which one or all to do.

Windows website has one called "Dell Inc. - Video - Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family" dated 10/14/05.

Dell's website has one called "Video: Intel Graphics Video, Driver, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System, v.6.14.10.4410,A07; Release date 12/9/05; Description:  Intel graphics driver for 915GM solutions"

And Intel has "IEGD for Windows v4.1, date 10/12/05" and it says in the notes not to install over a previous version of the Intel Embedded Graphics driver.

Thanks!

I have the same ialmrnt5 driver problem on my brand new inspiron 6400. Eveytime I try and start warcraft 3, it crashes at the menu screen. According to Intel's website, http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel945gm/sb/CS-021400.htm, warcraft is supposed to be compatible. What can i do?

Hi there, i have exactly the same problem. Dell 2400 with integrated intel graphics. Mine gives me this ialmrnt error even though i dont play games on my computer, it seems to be whenever i run the p2p program soulseek.

Where would I download the correct update for the driver as (from reading this thread) there seems to be a few varying suggestions. Windows/Dell/Intel, im completely stuck!

Thanks in advance
Tom
