Display not bright enough

I got a Dimension 3000 a couple of months ago.  I does not have a video card, just the Intel integrated graphics.  I am re-using my Sony Trinitron Multiscan 200GS monitor.  The monitor worked fine on my old computer, and was plenty bright enough.  The proper drivers for the monitor are installed.  I have adjusted the brightness and color settings in the Display settings, but have finally come to the conclusion that it is just not bright enough for me.

So, I need some advice.  What is the best way to get more brightness.  New power supply?  New video card?   I think that the monitor is OK.

The only other clue that I have to the problem is that the monitor seems to take a long time to wake up from the screen saver mode.  The brighness comes back very gradually.

Video card replacement nor a power upgrade will increase the brightness, so don't throw any money away on those.  If there is a brightness setting in the monitor control, either on the desktop or on the monitor itself, try it.  Other than that, the monitor just might be getting older.  How old is it  ?

Just checked E-bay, and the monitor is either going for  $40 bucks or $80.00....  Maybe time for another monitor.  Check out the below coupon sites for a good deal.  You may have to be patient for a coupon to come along, so I hope you have another monitor as a stand-by

Sounds like the monitor is dying.

If you are lucky you can get a new one for $50 or less from a used computer shop
locally.
