Does XPS 8500/Nvidia GeForce GT 640 HDMI output support 5.1 audio

I have a factory XPS 8500 with the OEM GeForce GT 640. In connecting my computer to my home theater via the HDMI port on the graphics card, no Dolby Digital will come through.

I have correctly set up my speakers, receiver, media player, etc.

I am just wondering if this HDMI output supports 5.1, and if not, how can I get 5.1 out via HDMI on this computer?

You need to right click on the sound in the control panel, select the HDMI icon and go to properties and make HDMI the default sound path. You need to reverse this to get sound back to the PC.

Thank you for the response, but I have already done this.

I am only having problems getting Dolby through the the HDMI cable. When playing a DVD on my computer through my receiver, the receiver displays Multi Chnl. When I connect via the optical SPDIF cable on the back of the XPS 8500, my receiver displays Dolby when playing the same source.

I am wondering if it is possible to get Dolby via the HDMI output on the GT 640.

I don't know about the GT 640, but the AMD 6450-based cards support the full HD 7.1.
