Dumped by Dell Xps 435mt

I have a xps 435mt. This computers hardware is more than capable to run Windows 10. I paid big money for this system to last and still going strong. I am disappointed in Dell for this statement.......Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected. This would be a realistic statement if this computers hardware was not capable of running Windows 10. So I guess with that said, no need to purchase another Windows based pc from dell.

Dell only test system models which are within their warranty period. This system was released at the end of 2008. Assuming at most the warranty was for 3 years and the system was sold 1 year after release date that takes you to the end of 2012...

Like most Dell systems sold after 2008 the system will run Windows 10 RS1 64 Bit fine.

Windows 10 works just fine on 10 year old Dells down to the GX620 with BIOS A11 and Pentium D 900 Series.   Where there are no 10 drivers as long as there are Legacy VISTA /7/8 DRIVERS most dells can run windows 10 just fine.   I routinely install this on GX620 and up optiplexes along with directx 11 cards like the radeon HD 5450.   Slightly newer gpu and at least 4 gigs ram with 3.5 useable is fine for windows 10.

Ford doesn't still support the model T or the 1967 mustang but they are still useable today with 3rd party parts.

Once people figure out that Linux and Dos and Grub MBR bootloaders are no longer working on new machines they will start hoarding the old machines to run programs that cannot be installed on newer dells.

In addition to what was already said, Microsoft will fully support Win 7 until 2020 and Win 8.1 until 2023.

So do you really even need / want Win 10?

I have read that there are no updates or support for Windows Vista and as of about mid 2017 there will be no more updates or support for Windows 7 which is what mine is upgraded to.

I have read posts about sound card issues. For Dell to state that they will not make any drivers for Windows 10 is the downfall. The only purpose for this would be to sell the consumer a new computer. The one I have, core i7, quad core, 1 tb hard drive, etc., far surpasses the new Dell 3650 I just purchased for my mother which is running Windows 10.

The Creative Labs PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Titanium and PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme work fine with Windows 10 natively and in any case there is a Windows 10 compatible driver for it available from Creative:

I have the PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi in my XPS 8300 (also unsupported from Dell) but running Windows 10 RS1 pretty well.

Windows 10 will natively cover the rest of the hardware in the system. Just make sure the Legacy BIOS is updated to version 1.1.4 before the clean install (recommended) or upgrade install. See here:

The Dell Inspiron 3650 is an Entry Inspiron system... The Dell XPS 435 MT should be compared with the XPS 8900 if you want to compare old and new hardware.

and as of about mid 2017 there will be no more updates or support for Windows 7 which is what mine is upgraded to.

Here's the official support calendar from Microsoft. Windows 7 with SP1 has extended support* until January 14, 2020.

*Extended support. Microsoft will offer extended support for a minimum of 5 years from the date of a product's general availability.

I do not wish to comment on the manufacturer policy, but I can just state that when I purchased 435MT around 7+ years ago, it came with Vista after which I got a free upgrade to 7 and then a free upgrade to 10.

A few weeks ago I got updated to "10 Anniversary update".

I am quite pleased that I did not have to spend any money on operating system upgrades in the last 7+ years. I am completely updated as of today. :)

As far as drivers are concerned, there are only two pain areas:

1. Sound (there are few threads on this forum which describe how to solve the problem)

2. Bluetooth (again there is a thread on how to fix it).

So, with a little bit of free time, you can fix those.

Windows 7 was the best out of these three operating systems.

Windows 10 does have its quirks (for example with AMD graphics drivers, sometimes after you login to Windows, and click on some icon - nothing happens for 10-20 seconds and then you are back to normal.
