E521 and memory speed

Hello all,

I've seen several posts showing people running 800MHz memory in their E521 machines.  My question is, does the E521 take advantage of it's full speed, or does it drop down to 677MHz. (333)   Thank you.

When I was only using 2 x 1GB sticks of PNY Optima DDR2-PC6400-800MHZ,

it showed speed in BIOS and when I looked at Vista's Windows Experience Index, I get the highes possible score of 5.9.

I am still using that memory, but have since added 2 x 1GB sticks of Crucial Ballistics Tracerz.  WEI didn't change, because it was maxed-out before, but yeah, an E521 will not only accept DDR2-800, it will run it at full speed.

The manual says it supports 533-MHz, 667-MHz, 800-MHz (when available) DDR2 SDRAM. So the 800-MHz should run at full speed, as long as you don't mix it with slower RAM. In that case, all RAM will run at the speed of the slowest modules.

Thanks RoHe, I had seen the updated manual.

Just looking for some confirmation if anyone out there has run cpuz or something similar to show it's actual running speed.  Memory is quite inexpensive ATM.  Thank you.

thoman,

I believe it was you who mentioned on another forum that you thought the E521 would run 8GB of ram.  Have you tried more than 4 GB yet or have you heard of anyone trying it.

If I can't get this system to run more than 4 GB of RAM I am going to build a new box because of needs for working hard in virtualization with MOSS.

The CPU speed doesn't get in my way since it just a dev/sandbox system.

Thanks,

Keith
