E521 memory upgrade
I have a E521 PC that has just 1 512K memory in one of the 4 slots. I purchased a 1G memory stick from Dell (SNPXG700C/1G) from off their web site that is compatible to the E521 PC. I tried to install it along with the 512K but the PC would not boot up (I just got 4 beeps).
I then tried to install it without the 512K memory stick but the PC still would not come up. I tried all 4 slots with the same results. I then put the 512K memory back in by itself and the PC came right up.
Do I have a bad 1G memory stick? Can a one gig memory stick be used with a 512K stick?
What am I doing wrong?
thanks

First make sure you fully seated the memory stick. Sometimes it will appear to be installed when it is not. If after that you still get the four beeps. I would contact Dell for an RMA as it would appear that the stick is faulty.
Also you might want to check out THIS SITE for memory upgrades for your system.
