Epson Printer Status Monitor missing

Hi

I have just taken over my husbands Dimension 4400 which had to be fitted with a new hard drive before WinXP OS was reinstalled.  I am still using my good old Epson Stylus Colour 600 printer which I don't want to replace.  Whilst the printer does work, we can't see any sign of the Status Monitor or the Despooler dialogue box so that I can monitor the printer/ink levels etc.

We have tried looking on the Epson site for a downloadable version, but can't see anything there, nor on the CD that came with the printer, nor on the XP CD-Rom.  I realise that this is an old printer, but I thought that the Status Monitor was automatically copied to the hard drive when the printer software was installed. This obviously didn't happen when we connected up the printer to the pc to set it up. If I try and access the printer software CD now, it says that the drivers on it are incompatible with Win XP, yet on the Epson website there don't appear to be any drivers available for my printer.  Please can someone tell me how to get Status Monitor etc to work. Thanks.

Sheila

Many older peripherals (printers, scanners) that are not 100% Windows XP compatible, but will work, have drivers built into Windows XP.  On those devices, the drivers are "basic function" drivers not the full feature drivers and support software (such as the ink monitor) that is available if the devices are used on older Operating Systems.

If there are no Windows XP specific drivers (and support software) on the Epson site, you are limited to whatever is built into Windows XP.

On the bright side, at least it will still work with XP.  There are many older devices that are not XP compatible and cannot be used at all on Windows XP.

I found that I can use my old PC to do printer maintenance on my Epson Printer. However my new HP PC does not have that function. This is very inconvenient. Since my printer cannot inform me when my ink levels are low. Is that Progress?
