Error c000021a
My Dell Dimension 4700 with Windows XP gets an error message at start up of c000021a. I tried to access the desktop to do a system restore but I keep getting the error. Even the safe mode start up fails. What can I do?

Hi Daniel,
This blue screen error is a result of hardware failure or some important files missing from the operating system.
To check the hardware functionality of the computer, let’s try the following steps,
http://dell.to/MNniAq
In case you are not able to run the hardware test by following the above steps, then try following steps:
Note: This test will be applicable for hard drive with which are 80GB or less than 80GB in size.
In case you are not able to run diagnostics using above two methods, use the drivers and utilities cd also called as Resource CD to run the tests.

Please reply with the results.

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x0000000)
The system has been shutdown.
The STOP 0xC000021A error occurs when either Winlogon.exe or Csrss.exe fails. When the Windows NT kernel detects that either of these processes has stopped, it stops the system and raises the STOP 0xC000021A error. This error may have several causes. Among them are the following:
Mismatched system files have been installed.
A Service Pack installation has failed.
A backup program that is used to restore a hard disk did not correctly restore files that may have been in use.
An incompatible third-party program has been installed.

If you feel comfortable about performing the troubleshooting, review the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles before you start the reinstallation:

SpeedStop: this is exactly the error I receive when attempting the previous suggestion by Dell-Appu. I will read the articles you suggested and attempt a reinstall.
Thank you.
