Floppy diskette seek failure Keyboard failure

I have a dimension E310 that will not boot up in BIOS. The message say to strike the f1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility, but nothing happens. I tried all 6 six USB's. Two in the front and four in the back. Could anyone tell me what to do? Thanks, Barry

The floppy disk message generally indicates a corrupted CMOS (e.g. motherboard battery died) when you don't have a floppy.

I would first check the battery and replace it if needed. Then try resetting the CMOS to see if you can get up and running.

Barry,

Does your keyboard have an F Lock key?  If so, try pressing it before using the F1 / F2 keys.  An alternative is to try a different keyboard.

Hi Barry,

Try this.
1. Disconnect the power chord from the system tower.
2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
3. Reconnect the power chord and turn on the system and hold down the F2 key.
4. It would enter the system setup. On the left side of the screen move down to drives and press    enter. hit enter on diskette drive. On the right hand side highlight OFF and enter. confirm the change. hit escape and choose SAVE CHANGES AND EXIT.

it should boot up normally now. ALL THE BEST.

adios.

Does anyone else have any ideas how to get in to setup? What about a ps/2 card? Will that work or installing a floppy drive? Thanks, Barry

Barry,

You could try installing a floppy drive to see if you can get around that boot up error.  It wouldn't hurt to give it a try if you have one available.

I'm assuming your correct model number is..... E510.  If so, click here for an explanation of the diagnostic light error codes.  Review the suggestions the on-line service manual has to offer although resolving boot up error messages is one of the items listed.

Have you tried another keyboard?  Once you can access the BIOS you can disable the floppy drive controller.
